Building a Critical Minerals Supply Chain

In the face of U.S. tariffs, our government is protecting the resilience and self-reliance of the province’s critical mineral supply chain and delivering on its commitment to keep minerals mined in Ontario, refined in Ontario by our world-class workers.

The $500 million Critical Minerals Processing Fund (CMPF) is a key part of our plan to protect Ontario, providing strategic financial support to projects that expand Ontario’s critical minerals processing capacity and strengthen our made-in-Ontario supply chain.

Ontario is one of the most mineral rich areas in the entire world, with vast reserves of nickel, graphite, copper, cobalt and lithium found in the Ring of Fire. These critical minerals serve as key inputs in the manufacturing of electric vehicles, renewable energy solutions and other advanced technologies.

As global demand for critical minerals grows, our government is meeting the moment by expanding domestic processing capacity and building a complete, made-in-Ontario critical minerals supply chain, creating good-paying jobs, strengthening our economy and reinforcing Ontario’s position as a global leader in this critical sector.

By lowering taxes, cutting red tape, making strategic investments, speeding up approvals and championing local procurement, we will continue to do everything we can to unlock Ontario’s critical mineral potential.
