Under the leadership of Premier Ford, our government is currently leading the largest expansion of medical education in more than a decade.
This includes adding 340 undergraduate seats and 551 postgraduate medical residency positions, representing a 67 per cent increase in family medicine learners.
Our $180M investment opened the new medical school at Toronto Metropolitan University last year – Ontario’s first new medical school in 20 years – and our $55.8M investment is supporting the opening of the new York University medical school in 2028, which will be the first school in Ontario focused on training family doctors.
By training health care workers who will stay in the communities where they studied, we’re breaking down barriers to rewarding, in-demand careers and bringing highly skilled care to all corners of Ontario.
