Building Mines Faster to Protect Jobs and Build a More Self-Reliant Economy

As President Trump attacks our economy with tariffs, Ontario is moving faster to build mines and keep people working.

Ontario has the critical minerals, resources, workers and industrial capacity the world needs, giving Canada a strategic advantage as global trade becomes less certain and our allies seek secure, reliable suppliers.

Ontario’s mineral wealth is a generational economic opportunity. Through our One Project, One Process (1P1P) approach, we’re cutting red tape and moving faster to unlock these resources, attract investment and build the mines and processing capacity we need here at home.

Ontario’s mining sector already supports 150,000 direct and indirect jobs and contributes $14.4 billion to provincial GDP annually. We are building on that strength by unlocking opportunities like the Ring of Fire, which could create more than 70,000 jobs and add $22 billion to Ontario’s economy.

As countries compete for the minerals needed for advanced manufacturing, defence and new technologies, Ontario is now ranked first in Canada and second in the world for mining investment, and we’re building a made-in-Ontario supply chain that keeps more investment, jobs and value here at home.

At a time of U.S. tariffs and growing global competition, we cannot afford to leave Ontario’s critical minerals in the ground. Under Premier Ford, we’re moving faster to unlock our resources, build a made-in-Ontario supply chain and turn our mineral wealth into jobs, investment and greater economic security.
