Creating Jobs With Nuclear Energy

With energy demand expected to rise by up to 90%, our government is delivering projects today that will ensure Ontario has the reliable, affordable electricity it needs to power growth and economic prosperity for generations.

That’s why Ontario is leading the most ambitious nuclear energy build out in North America – projects that are expected to create 150,000 new jobs and generate $800 billion in economic impact.

Nuclear energy runs 24/7 and emissions-free, and the province’s world-class nuclear sector currently sustains 80,000 jobs across 200+ companies. Together, Ontario’s nuclear and hydropower form the backbone of one of the cleanest energy grids on earth.

Under the leadership of Premier Ford, we are delivering nuclear projects on-time and on-budget, ensuring clean, reliable, and affordable energy for families and businesses for generations.

After the previous Liberal government planned to shut down Pickering and abandon thousands of workers, our government chose to build and today we are beginning construction on Canada’s largest clean energy infrastructure project, refurbishing the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station creating 30,500 jobs, protecting the facility’s future and securing up to 38 years of reliable, affordable and clean nuclear power for Ontario families and businesses.

Once complete, Pickering will provide up to 2,200 MW of clean, reliable electricity — enough to power 2.2 million homes — supporting record population growth, new home construction and the expansion of Ontario’s manufacturing and industrial sectors.

This is an investment in Canadian workers, businesses and economic strength, with the refurbishment contributing $41.6 billion to Canada’s GDP, with approximately 90 per cent of project spending remaining in Canada, strengthening local businesses and the made-in-Canada nuclear supply chain.
