Cutting Red Tape to Build the Most Competitive Economy in the G7

In the face of global economic uncertainty, Ontario is cutting red tape, lowering costs and removing barriers to investment to protect jobs, attract new businesses and build a more competitive, resilient and self-reliant economy.

With the lowest regulatory burden per capita in Canada, we’re reducing risk for businesses and giving them the certainty they need to invest.

The goal is not fewer rules, it’s better ones: removing duplication and complexity, while protecting public safety and environmental stewardship, so we can build bigger and better than ever before.

For cutting red tape and regulatory burdens, Ontario received an A grade from the Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses (CFIB) for the first time in provincial history.

Since 2018, Ontario has removed more than 14,000 regulatory compliance requirements, a reduction of nearly six percent in Ontario’s red tape burden, delivering over $1.3 billion and 1.8 million hours in savings every year.

But that’s not all – we’re leading a review of over 350 economic development-related permits with the goal to eliminate or transform a minimum of 35 percent of them by 2028 and we’re harnessing the power of AI to cut more red tape.

This is how we are protecting Ontario and building the most investment ready economy in the G7.
