Ontario Building Training Centre for Sheet Metal Workers in Ottawa

As the world of work continues to change, our government strives to make Ontario the best place to live, work and raise a family and give people the tools they need to succeed.

Over the next decade, more than 500,000 additional workers will be needed in skilled trades-related occupations in Ontario.

That’s why in June 2023, we announced Ontario’s $224 million investment in the Capital Stream of the Skills Development Fund to build more training centres and modernize existing facilities to train Ontario workers for in-demand jobs.

Today, our government is investing over $4 million to support the expansion of SMART Local 47’s training centre and to expand the curriculum to include French-language training materials.

This investment will create the first centre in Ontario to offer training in French and aims to result in higher completion rates of the sheet metal worker training program.
