Ontario Delivers Darlington Refurbishment Project Ahead of Schedule and Under Budget
February 11, 2026
In a time of global uncertainty, Ontario is leading as an energy superpower by delivering stable, reliable power on time and on budget, built in Canada.
Ontario has completed construction on the refurbishment of Darlington Unit 4 four months ahead of schedule, with the overall refurbishment project delivered $150 million under budget, concluding the world’s largest completed nuclear refurbishment project.
With all four units refurbished and ready to return to service, Darlington will deliver more than 3,500 MW of clean, reliable, emission-free electricity — enough to power 3.5 million homes — for at least 30 more years.
Over the next three decades, refurbishment and continued operations at Darlington are expected to generate up to $90 billion in economic benefits and support approximately 14,200 good-paying jobs every year across Ontario.
The project was built by Ontario workers and suppliers, with 96% of project spending retained in-province — keeping jobs, businesses, and economic value here at home.
Under the leadership of Premier Ford, Ontario is delivering major nation-building infrastructure — protecting affordability, strengthening energy security, and proving this government has the focus and discipline to get big projects done on time, on budget, and built by Canadians.
