Ontario Fighting Gridlock and Making Life Easier for Drivers
Cities in Ontario have seen an explosion of bike lanes on major streets, which is making gridlock worse.
That is why our government is introducing legislation that would, if passed, require municipalities to receive approval from the province before installing new bike paths that would result in the removal of lanes for traffic.
We’re also moving forward with plans to make life more convenient for drivers by increasing the speed limit to 110 km/h, where it is safe to do so, on all 400-series highways.
In addition, to help make roads safer and prevent accidents and damages that can occur from potholes, we’re consulting on the development of a pothole prevention and repair fund to support smaller municipalities.
Finally, we’re also making life more affordable by proposing to enshrine in legislation the current freeze on knowledge and road testing fees, saving families $72 million this decade.
Our proposed legislation would build on the success of the Get It Done Act, 2024, which has kept costs down by freezing fees for driver’s licences and Ontario Photo Cards, automating licence plate renewals, and prohibiting new tolls on provincial highways.
Under the leadership of Premier Ford, our government will continue to get it done for Ontario drivers by fighting gridlock and keeping costs down.
