Ontario Ramping Up Financial Penalties to Crack Down on Illegal Ticket Resellers
Our government is taking the next step to protect fans and promote fairness in Ontario’s ticket marketplace through enhancements to the Ticket Sales Act, 2017.
These new measures build on the ticket resale price cap announced on March 20, 2026, which helps prevent excessive and unreasonable markups for Ontario families.
These changes will increase the financial penalties from $10,000 to $25,000, ensuring meaningful consequences for those who break the rules.
This additional action enhances transparency by publishing non-compliant businesses or individuals on the Public Record (Consumer Beware List).
Together these new and enhanced enforcement tools will protect families and consumers from exploitative, professional resellers who artificially drive-up ticket prices.
Our government remains committed to putting fans first, protecting consumers, and ensuring a level playing field for businesses that follow the rules.
