Ontario Takes Next Step to Reopen Brantford Jail

Our government is making a historic $3 billion investment to ensure there is always room to keep violent and repeat offenders behind bars and off our streets.

Unlike the previous Liberal government, which closed eight jails, we’re exploring every opportunity, including reopening the Brantford Jail, to expand correctional capacity and better protect Ontario communities.

Reopening the Brantford Jail could add up to 125 correctional beds, helping ensure our justice system can keep pace with tougher bail and sentencing laws.

Since 2018, we’ve hired more than 4,000 correctional officers to support the more than 2,500 additional correctional beds being added across Ontario over the next decade.

Protecting Ontario means investing in the correctional infrastructure and frontline staff needed to hold criminals accountable and keep our communities safe.
