Training Ontario’s Health-Care Workforce

Our government is training Ontario’s highly skilled health-care workforce to connect everyone to the care they need, close to home.

Starting today, applications for the new Ontario Learn and Stay – Medical Education program are now open.

Backed by a $220 million investment, our government is covering the tuition, books and other direct educational costs of more than 2,000 future family doctors who agree to work anywhere in the province for at least five years as family doctors after finishing their studies.

The expanded program could help up to 2 million people become or remain attached to primary care, delivering on the government’s goals in its Primary Care Action Plan to connect every person to a family doctor or primary care.

Since the OLSG program was launched in 2023, we’ve invested more than $182 million to support over 13,300 future nurses, lab techs and paramedics for communities that need them most.

By training health care workers who will stay in the communities where they studied, we’re breaking down barriers to rewarding, in-demand careers and bringing highly skilled care to all corners of Ontario.
